Under an agreement with Stoney Creek Township in Henry County, Central Indiana Land Trust manages 1.5 acres of tall grass prairie on three small pioneer cemeteries.
These sites are "pockets" of prairie vegetation remaining from a time in the postglacial period when the climate was warmer and drier than it has been in
recent centuries. They have remained undisturbed by agriculture and development activity since the days of pioneer settlements. Central Indiana Land Trust's management plan includes
prescribed burns as one tool to encourage prairie species and to control woody growth.
