BROWNING FAMILY MARSH NATURE PRESERVE

Thanks to a donation from the Mayflower Park Associates, the Central
Indiana Land Trust is now protecting 41 acres of very important habitat
in Boone County named the Browning Family Marsh. This site harbors
more state rare and endangered species than any other similarly-sized
property in Central Indiana. Some species that have been seen at the
property include King Rail, Virginia Rail, Hooded Merganser, Least Bittern and Great Egret (seen in photo). The Land
Trust plans to host tours of the property in the future. Plans for
management and appropriate public access are currently being developed.
The
Browning family is proud to see this land protected. "We recognized
early on what a special place the marsh was. Over the years, several
environmental studies revealed the marsh is home to over 120 unique
species of birds, many of which were endangered. It became apparent we
had a responsibility to be long term good stewards of the land.
Management of such a unique property requires a skilled team with
specialized resources. We are excited about entrusting its future to
the Central Indiana Land Trust," said Michael G. Browning II.
